This lecture explains the language and influence of flowers as used by art and architecture through the ages across many cultures – from Islamic carpet design and Egyptian tomb paintings to the most incredible modern architecture.

From the humble forget-me-not to a bunch of red roses, flowers have been the language not just of love but of artists, architects and designers for generations. In this lively presentation we explore how their forms, associated myths and secret meanings have inspired everyone from the ancient Egyptians right through to today.  Who knows, perhaps we’ve been reading their messages wrong all along!
