Who were the Nabataeans who suddenly appeared in history, and what was it that allowed these men from the desert to profit so richly from the trade routes? Based in the wonderful city of Petra which they built, their trade network spread far and wide – why did it then disappear?

In this lecture Eileen will give some of the answers and take a close look at the famous Rose City.

About the Lecturer

Eileen Goulding

After a career in finance, Eileen studied Ancient Egypt and was awarded an MA Egyptology in 2012. Since then she has written and had two books published, become an accredited lecturer for the Arts Society and an Enrichment Lecturer for several cruise lines.
Her scope of interest and research has developed and expanded from Egypt to history in general and indigenous societies in particular.

In recent years Eileen has studied extensively the empires of Central and South America, tribal histories of South Africa. Australian Aboriginals and the Crusades of the 11th and 12th centuries. She has indulged her love of the sea by learning about pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy. This has resulted in several more interesting and informative talks to add to her portfolio.

She is known for her warm, lively and informative style and loves to share her enthusiasm and specialist knowledge of many of the world’s ancient civilisations. Her range of talks cover Australia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, Egypt, Greece and South Africa.
